A Q&A with… Lisa Price

Hoxton’s Business Development Manager – Lisa Price – started out in insurance because the flexible hours suited raising her family. Here she tells us about what she does at Hoxton, why she chose to join the firm, her interest in people and her advice for those just starting out in the insurance industry

1. When did you start out in insurance? And what was the appeal?

Lisa: So many moons ago! 1995 working in an inbound call centre environment selling Household and Motor Insurance. The reason I got into insurance initially was the flexible working hours which were offered, they suited me raising my girls. Fast forward a few years and my insurance career has evolved and it’s been a very satisfying journey to date.

2. If not in insurance, what other career might you have chosen and why?

Lisa: Oh, an International Photographic Jouralist, I am nosey! But seriously, people and cultures fascinate me and I am very curious, fascinated and intrigued by peoples’ stories; how they live their lives; and what makes them tick. Capturing their story – either in words or by capturing unique moments on camera and sharing it in the hope of broadening peoples’ understanding, tolerance and horizons.

3. Tell us about your role at Hoxton…

Lisa: My role is very hands-on. In a nutshell it’s a sleeves-rolled-up Broker account development and mamagement role.

4. Why did you choose to work at Hoxton?

Lisa: Justin and Anthony came across as genuine, approachable people and hearing about the Hoxton proposition lit a flame in me. The product, the e-trade distribution model and the potential, along with the backing of an A-rated, first-class insurer, it just felt so right, the perfect fit for me on a personal level and I knew straightaway that I had the skillset and right mindset to assist in delivering Hoxton’s ambitions of being a preferred provider of Private Client insurances within the Broker market.

5. Talk us through a typical day at work…

Lisa: Talking with and meeting Brokers and all other insurance people and showcasing Hoxton’s proposition, products and how we transact business. I also work onboarding new Brokers, and provide product and e-trading training.

6. Can you describe Hoxton in three words?

Lisa: I can do better than that: Honourable, Observant, Excellent, Trail-blazing, Outstanding, Noble… is that OK?

7. What advice would you give to someone just starting out in the industry?

Lisa: Be open-minded and versatile and work hard. There are so many exciting potential careers within the insurance industry. You will find yours or it will find you. Hard work, diligence and integrity really does pay off. But the key to success (whether on a personal or professional level) is to never lose the personal, authentic touch in your interactions with colleagues, bosses and clients.

8. What are you reading at the moment?

Lisa: We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

9. Who would play you in a film about your life?

Lisa: I did one of those quizzes online and apparently Alyssa Milano…

10. What are the three things you would take to a desert island?

Lisa: My headphones, spotify playlists and phone… Hopefully it would have WiFi!!
